BBC SO Total Immersion: Ligeti

Ligeti colour image portrait

Many of György Ligeti’s greatest orchestral works come together in a kaleidoscopic concert of shifting colours and shimmering plays of texture.

The Total Immersion event dedicated to the music of the idiosyncratic Hungarian composer reaches its climax in this concert from the BBCSO and chief conductor Sakari Oramo.  Grammy Award-winning violinist Augustin Hadelich joins the orchestra for the wild, generous invention of the Violin Concerto, while Nicolas Hodges is soloist for the demanding Piano Concerto. The textural, densely patterned experiments of Atmospheres (famously used in Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey) and San Franciso Polyphony, as well as the musical manifesto of Clocks and Clouds complete the programme.

This performance is expected to finish around 9.30pm, including a 20 minute interval.
