Can our postcodes predict our mental health?

the barbican's architecture

How much does your postcode tell you about your psyche?

Join epidemiologist Dr James Kirkbride and Senior Curator at Wellcome Collection Emily Sargent who will be discussing how one of the greatest factors for our mental health is determined by where we live. Not only can the type of built environment we live in – from concrete housing estate to leafy suburb – influence our mental well-being, but also how our cultural communities or how far removed we are from them can also play a role.

This Café Scientifique is an open scientific discussion brought to you by the Royal Society, the National Academy for science. The Cafés are dialogue-based and allow time for discussion between and amongst the audience and the speaker, where you’re encouraged not just to bring an enquiring mind, but your own thoughts and answers to the questions.

Emily Sargent is curator of Living with Buildings, their recent exhibition about health and architecture.

Dr James Kirkbride is a UCL based epidemiologist whose research is funded by the Royal Society.

This event is partnership with the Royal Society.
