Bombay Jayashri + Sarod Duet

Bombay Jayashri clapping as she performs

Transport yourself into the world of Hindustani and Carnatic traditions with this double-bill, as some of Indian classical music’s most thrilling performers present an evening of sublime ragas.

Discover two of today’s most respected emerging soloists on the sarod, the stringed, lute-like instrument that is so prominent in traditional Indian music. They are the son of renowned master of the instrument, Pandit Shekhar Borkar, and tonight they weave through a selection of evening ragas for their first UK appearance, accompanied by the brilliant master of tabla, Parimal Chakraborty.

In the second half, one of India’s most distinctive and celebrated singers presents a rich and moving collection of Carnatic music. ‘Bombay’ Jayashri Ramnath is an Academy Award nominated vocalist and composer, and a disciple of violin maestro Lalgudi Jayaraman. Performing with a full Carnatic ensemble from Chennai, she further explores the raga tradition in her Darbar Festival debut.
