About Drum Works
A Barbican Artistic Associate, Drum Works uses drumming to inspire people creatively, give them confidence in their ideas and empower them to direct their own futures. Around 500 people take part every week through six schools, two senior ensembles and an adult group.
Fast-paced creative sessions led by professional musicians enable participants from all backgrounds and all levels of musical experience to create something they enjoy and are proud of. All musical material is written by participants and has a fresh, original sound distinctive to our local east London community.
Opportunities to perform at high-profile events demonstrate that positive action, hard work and commitment achieve incredible results. Participants can progress in to Drum Heads, and several older members of the project now work as assistant tutors with the Drum Works team, supporting the delivery of the project in schools alongside developing their own skills through training and mentoring.
