Milton Nascimento: Clube da Esquina

with Gilles Peterson (DJ)

Brazilian musical icon Milton Nascimento revisits songs from his pivotal Clube da Esquina project – the series of albums that transformed the musical landscape of his country.

It was a defiant project – a collaborative, collectivist response to the military dictatorship operating in Brazil. Fusing Afro jazz and Latin American folk, while also taking influence from The Beatles, John Coltrane and Western classical, these albums allowed an entire generation of Brazilian artists to free themselves from bossa nova. Tonight, Nascimento and friends play a selection of highlights from the two Clube da Esquina albums, as well as from Minas, Geraes, among other surprises.

‘I had never thought of doing something that would bring together the two Clube albums, but I feel that now is the time. This Clube da Esquina tour is sure to be a truly magical event, to say the least’, says Milton. ‘I want to bring an idea that can unite people. I am sure this will be the most special project that I have done in all these years.’
