Lalgudi GJR Krishnan & Lalgudi Vijayalakshmi + Omkar Dadarkar

Darbar Festival 2018

Omkar Dadarkar singing

A double bill concert that brings together Hindustani vocals with Carnatic violin, as part of Darbar Festival 2018.

Krishnan and Vijayalakshmi are torch-bearers of the Lalgudi gharana, a widely respected and admired tradition of music characterised by its melodic and lyrical expression. Their work continues the legacy left by their late father and guru, the legendary violinist Lalgudi G Jayaraman. Here, they will intertwine rich violin melodies, guiding the listener into the heart of Carnatic music.

In the second half, Omkar Dadarkar who was initiated into the world of singing by his aunt, the legendary vocalist Padmashree Manik Verma gives a khayal recital. Taking up singing at a young age it was not until he was selected as a scholar at the ITC Sangeet Research Academy in 1999 that he really came into his own. Tonight will see him perform a selection of engrossing ragas that invite peace and contemplation.

This performance will begin promptly at the advertised start time and is expected to finish by 10.30pm – subject to change.

Presented by Darbar in partnership with Barbican
