Carl Craig and the Synthesizer Ensemble wowing the crowds

Detroit Techno godfather Carl Craig assembles a team of keyboardists and a large collection of synthesizers to present a symphonic reimagining of his dancefloor productions.

Craig’s accomplice is Francesco Tristano, a Techno-loving pianist and composer who helped to adapt his tracks for orchestra for his album Versus. Tonight, Kelvin Sholar joins him on piano, as they strip back these arrangements for an ensemble of keyboards, synthesizers, samplers and drum machine. But this isn’t just a Techno-meets-Classical project – it’s almost a new genre entirely; an electronic symphony that’s spirited, moving and, of course, danceable.

This project has its roots in a 2008 concert, where Craig collaborated with Dub Techno innovator and multi-instrumentalist Moritz von Oswald – who Craig calls the ‘spiritual advisor’ to Versus. Together, they made ReComposed with the help of Tristano on keys, beginning Craig’s partnership with the composer. This show, produced in association with The Hydra, sees the realisation of a project that’s almost a decade in the making – an exploration of the vast symphonic potential of Electronic music.
