Alessandro Cortini + Sarah Davachi

Alessandro Cortini doing some live mixing behind some pretty trendy visuals

An evening of Ambient electronic performances which explore how we perceive sound and memory.

Alessandro Cortini’s audio-visual AVANTI project, released as a record last year, combines vintage Super 8 films shot by his grandfather – portraying his family life growing up in Italy – with an ambient synth-based soundtrack which veers from the sweet to the sinister. It’s a project which equates music to memory, with dense layers of electronica underpinned by his sensitive compositional style.

Before Cortini is a set from the Canadian electro-acoustic minimalist Sarah Davachi, who creates the kind of shimmering drone music which you can almost see moving then the air in front of you. Despite its apparent sparseness, this is music of profound expression – the absence between the notes speaking as much as the notes themselves – and all grounded in her research into the effects of sound on the human nervous system.
