Louise Orwin: CRY CRY KILL KILL

Open Lab Showcase

CRY CRY KILL KILL, Louise Orwin

This empowering show explores female rage and what it means to be a survivor in a post #MeToo world. What happens when we take back our bodies, take up space and get angry?

Inspired by ‘final girl theory’ (the last remaining female in classic horror movies) and medical histories of institutionalised women, CRY CRY KILL KILL looks at how female bodies and suffering have been fetishized, pathologized and controlled. Performed by a diverse range of professional queer, trans and femme performers, alongside non-professionals, and in collaboration with a pro-wrestling consultant.

Louise Orwin is an award-winning writer and performance maker whose research-driven work often focuses on female identity.

The Open Lab Showcase presents work-in-progress performances by emerging and mid-career artists following a period of research and development at the Barbican as part of the Open Lab Programme.
