Nouveau Riché: CASTE-ING

Open Lab Showcase

A young black woman with brown curly hair sits on the floor with headphones on looking into the distance. She's wearing a grey jumper, black tights and white trainers.

A lyrical journey through the current state of the theatre industry depicting the professional and emotional issues faced by Black women in theatre.

CASTE-ING weaves together an inventive blend of spoken word, song, and beatbox-gig-theatre to expose the highs and lows of making it as a ‘Black actress.'

Nouveau Riché is an award-winning arts production company and creative movement, discovering, nurturing and producing unique stories from all walks of life. They make culturally inclusive work that is educational and entertaining, across all art forms.

The Open Lab Showcase presents work-in-progress performances by emerging and mid-career artists following a period of research and development at the Barbican as part of the Open Lab Programme.
