Against The Grain

Life Rewired Hub

Against the grain hero image

A lunchtime talk where you get to try free samples of heritage grain made bread and sample what a sustainable future tastes like.

Break bread with farmer and agro-activist Abi Glencross and E5 baker Luke Duffy as they discuss food security, heritage grains and the future of bread.

As globalised manufacturing of food calls for consistent product with guaranteed yields, farmers have been forced to adopt strains and species of crops that can withstand the pressures of weather, pests and cultural tastes. But this has led to mono-cultures of crops which are genetically far-removed from their wild ancestors and leaves them wide open to being wiped out by disease.

Find out from Abi and Luke about where heritage grains fit in the complex food eco-system and the future of the planet’s food security.
