Indian Season 2023

Indian season 2023

This Autumn, we present a season of work by some of the most exciting contemporary Indian artists working today, including performances, gigs, talks, outdoor screenings and a large artist commission.

From Ranjani Shettar's stunning new sculptures in our Conservatory, to some of India’s most extraordinary musicians in this year's Darbar Festival, these artists use their work to explore a range of important issues including gender, ecology, and the relationship between art and tradition. We welcome Why Not Theatre's production of the Mahabharata to our stage. A classical Indian epic retold with a contemporary lens that resonates with today's conflicts such as migration and climate change, its themes are also explored in the Re/Sisters exhibition, which shines a light in the relationship between ecology and gender. Don't miss the BAFTA-nominated gem Monsoon Wedding as part of our Outdoor Cinema 2023, which shows the ups, downs and chaos of a large close-knit family, against a backdrop of vibrant colours and with a toe-tapping soundtrack.

‘This season is a testament to the vibrancy and diversity of Indian art and we hope that it will inspire and challenge people in equal measure.‘
Artistic Director, Will Gompertz
