Ranjani and Gayatri, Poetry of the Saints

Darbar Festival

Ranjani Gayatri

A special chance to get up close to the world-renowned versatile musicians candidly sharing their spiritual insights. Discover how the practice of music is the path towards moksha or liberation.

Carnatic music is the classical form of music that has been predominantly existent in the southern part of India. The sisters will explore how devotion through music is a spiritual sadhana (practice) which elevates the level of consciousness. Unwind as they take you through a journey of some of their favourite spiritual composers from Purandara Dasa, to the trinity of composers which include Tyāgarāja, Dikshitar and Sastri, whose hymns of praise have wide appeal, in music that is by turn exuberant, intense, serene and dramatic. Saint Thyagaraja showed that Nadopasana, or the practice of music, is the path towards moksha or liberation.

This event takes place from 2.30-4pm in Frobisher Rooms 5-6.

The hour talk follows a 30 minute Q&A with the audience.
