Macbeth

Guildhall School of Music & Drama

Silhouette of a man and woman in woods at night

This contemporary take on Shakespeare's classic story of 'vaulted ambition' examines the bloodied consequences of a single-minded quest for power, and asks if it is ever possible to escape one's fate.

Focusing on the power-play between Lord and Lady Macbeth and the title character’s own unravelling conscience, director Ashley Zhangazha’s fresh interpretation of one of the world’s best-known plays explores power, humanity and the supernatural, and the role of fate versus self-determination.

Please note this production contains adult content including violence, blood, themes of child mortality, depictions of death, scenes of a sexual nature and scenes relating to mental illness and self-harm. There will also be strobe lighting, haze, on-stage smoking, explosions and loud noises.

Approximate running time: 1 hour 20 minutes, no interval
