UK Premiere: Shall I Compare You To A Summer’s Day? (15) + Screen Talk

SAFAR Film Festival / Forbidden Colours

A man in a net vest and mask looks in, in a still from Shall I Compare You to a Summer's Day?

Shall I Compare You to a Summer's Day? is a contemporary queer musical taking Arab folktales as its formal reference, and Egyptian pop music as its primary sonic material.

Based on the filmmaker's personal love diary and told in the form of a One Thousand and One Nights tale, stories playfully unfold through conversations between Scheherazade, a narrator who never comes into view, and ghosts of former lovers.

The screening is followed by a panel discussion, led by SAFAR curator Rabih El-Khoury, on LGBTQ storytelling and filmmaking in the Arab world.

This screening is part of our regular strand Forbidden Colours, celebrating rarely seen queer-focused films from places where LGBTQ+ people still suffer societal oppression and struggle for equality.
