Domenico Scarlatti

The Mirror of Human Frailty

Mahan Esfahani smiling in front of a wall, with his hat hanging on the wall behind him

Inventive, exuberant, and endlessly entertaining, the keyboard music of Domenico Scarlatti is a treasure-trove of musical possibilities. Explore a genius without limits in this afternoon celebration.

There are nearly as many ways to play Scarlatti as there are performers. Here we bring together three of his greatest living champions for a day sharing their passion: three radically different perspectives united by their joy in his boundless genius.

And it really is boundless. Scarlatti is a composer who defies classification as Classical or Baroque, radical or conservative; drawing inspiration equally from his Italian training and the sunlit sounds of his adopted Spain. With Daria van den Bercken on piano, Mahan Esfahani on harpsichord and Aline Zylberajch on fortepiano, this is a day of musical conversation, sparkling performance and some of the most life-affirming music ever written for keyboard.

This performance will end at approximately 7.30pm, with three intervals.
