In this three-hour workshop led by paper sculptor Richard Sweeney, participants will learn several paper manipulation techniques inspired by Noguchi’s works. Templates will be provided for several designs, and demonstrations given on how these may be further modified and developed.
The following techniques will be demonstrated on the day:
- Curved folding: how to crease/score and cut paper, using experimental making to gain confidence with tools and materials.
- Slot construction: the use of slots to intersect multiple pieces, inspired by Noguchi’s works Strange Bird and Mountains Forming
- Pleating, curved and straight edged pleats, inspired by Noguchi’s work The Kite.
- Collapsible pleats and cylinders inspired by Noguchi’s iconic Akari lampshades.
All tickets include same day entry to Noguchi.
