Gone Too Far! (12A)+ Introduction by director Destiny Ekaragha

Her Lens, His Story

Two men and a woman chat on the street in Destiny Ekaragha's film Gone Too Far!

Destiny Ekaragha adapts Bola Agbaje’s fast and funny play about London teenager Yemi, whose street-cred takes a hit when his eccentric Nigerian brother comes to visit.

Yemi (Malachi Kirby) is hoping to attract the attentions of Armani (Shanika Warren-Markland), but his prospects are thwarted by the arrival of his loud, proud Nigerian brother (OC Ukeje). When the two brothers are sent to buy some okra, their day rapidly spirals out of control when Armani’s ex (Tosin Cole) goes on the hunt for Yemi...

Ekaragha affectionately mocks the bravado of her male characters while offering welcome moments of tenderness, with Cole excelling as the self-important antagonist, who is not as tough as he pretends. Agbaje’s sparkling script also manages to lay bare the prejudices of her characters, who look down on the cultural identities and backgrounds of others in the community.
