Ellen Arkbro

A black and white photo of Ellen Arkbro's head and shoulders. She is looking at the camera with a beam of light behind her.

The sound artist and composer performs pieces from her new record on the grand organ at the medieval St Giles’ Cripplegate church.

On her previous release For Organ and Brass, the Swedish composer took influence from her mentors La Monte Young and Marian Zazeela and began an exploration of tone and dynamics, swapping out the guitar she was known for for a nearly 400 year old church organ. This new LP Chords For Organ adopts a more minimalist approach, extending and obscuring the timbral quality of the instruments it’s played on. In two tracks, Arkbro considers how sound occupies space rather than time.
