The King and the Mockingbird (U)

Framed Film Club

A snooty king, a fancy bird, and two young shepherds

In this classic French animation, a chimney sweep and a shepherdess seek to escape from the clutches of a tyrannical king.

In this animated feature, two lovers -- a chimney sweep (Serge Reggiani) and a shepherdess (Anouk Aimée) -- live as characters in a painting owned by a ruthless king. In order to escape from the king, who is in love with the shepherdess, the characters emerge into the three-dimensional world outside their painted confines. The king is intent on capturing the duo for his own evil purposes, so the lovers seek assistance from the quick-witted Mr. Wonderbird (Pierre Brasseur).

Adults can only come if they’re bringing a child, and children can only come along if accompanied by an adult.

(If you’re over 18, we’re afraid being a ‘big kid’ doesn’t count.)
