CPD for teachers and youth workers

A free twilight event for teachers and youth workers exploring LGBTQ+ issues in school and youth settings. 

The session will begin with a visit to the exhibition Another Kind of Life: Photography on the Margins, followed by a continuing professional development (CPD) session facilitated by influential writer and performer, Dean Atta, and experienced artist filmmaker and facilitator, Annis Joslin. 

Activities will include creative writing and photography. The session will provide guidance, advice and ideas for all youth workers or teachers delivering the Citizenship or PSHE Curriculum who want to raise awareness of and explore LGBTQ+ issues.

This twilight CPD event is presented by Barbican Guildhall Creative Learning, run by Photoworks and accompanies the Into The Outside heritage youth project.

Exhibition visit from 5pm (exhibition closes at 6pm) and CPD from 6:00-8:30pm

What is Into the Outside?

Into the Outside is a heritage-learning project with local young people examining Brighton & Hove’s LGBTQ+ past and creating a new archive of queer youth experiences for the city. The project is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and delivered by Photoworks in collaboration with Brighton & Hove Libraries Services, the Mass Observation Archive and the East Sussex Record Office. Many other organisations from across the city are also involved including local schools, Brighton Museum & Art Gallery, Queer in Brighton and Allsorts Youth Project.
