All Human Life

An exhibition highlighting the rich and unique archives held by the Hulton Deutsch Collection, focusing on photojournalism from the American Civil War to today

The exhibition included works by some of the world’s pioneering photographers such as Felice Beato and Julia Margaret Cameron but the majority of pictures were those taken for newspapers and magazine by ‘rank and file’ practitioners.

The present-day Collection (a direct descendant of the Hulton Picture Library founded in 1944 by publisher Edward Hulton) was originally established as an archive for Picture Post - Hulton’s seminal magazine of photojournalism. Since then, the library has absorbed many other press archives and private collections.
