Excessive Gesture: Experimental Drawing for Young People

Lee Krasner

Florence Peake image

In this workshop use the whole body to capture gestures and actions through mark-making.

Inspired by Lee Krasner's energetic and vibrant mark making, work with artist Florence Peake to create large-scale drawing and painting inspired by movement practices from Somatic dance techniques. Use the whole body to capture gestures and actions through mark-making.

The visual works created will make an immersive landscape to work with as scores for movement. Over the course of the workshop the painting/mark making will become possibly more collaborative and working with Lee Krasner's collage enquiry by cutting up re-configuring the works made to look at making an environment of excessive gesture. This workshop also looks at how qualities of gesture made through whole body movement can have different dynamics and presence- setting alive conjunctions of gesture in the marks made.
