BBC SO Totally Tanglewood

An image of Ryan standing on the grassy river bank, a dramatic grey sky overhead

The culmination of the BBC SO’s immersive celebration of Tanglewood, the home of contemporary orchestral music in America, includes the world premiere of Bernard Rands’s Symphonic Fantasy.

Ryan Wigglesworth conducts this symphonic celebration of Tanglewood and its legacy. Included are two premieres with a transatlantic feel: the first performance of a new score by British-born American Bernard Rands, and the UK premiere of Helen Grime’s Tanglewood-commissioned Liminia – a musical arch stretching from monumental density to tender quietness.

British masterpieces bookend the concert: Knussen’s bright and percussive fanfares, and Britten’s hybrid symphonic celebration of ‘the reawakening of the earth and of life,’ his Spring Symphony.

The performance will finish at approximately 9.30pm. It includes a 20 minute interval.
