Ashwini Bhide-Deshpande + Pandit Kushal Das

Darbar Festival

Ashwini and Kushal

A special concert that celebrates midnight ragas through India’s iconic sitar, followed by the Jaipur-Atruli style of khayal (imagination) vocal.

Pandit Kushal Das returns to Darbar Festival with his spellbinding signature sitar sound. In this concert he presents his music with the legendary tabla genius Pandit Anindo Chatterjee, who accompanied Kushal Das’s idol, the late Pandit Nikhil Banerjee, for many years. Immerse yourself in the raga as it unfolds from super slow to contemplative improvisation and ferocious rhythmic crescendos.

India’s foremost female vocalist, Deshpande, closes the final concert of the festival. With her crystal clear, sublime tonal note bending she leads us through the emotive landscapes of midnight ragas. Admired for her depth of expression and emotional intelligence, she transcends the healing nature of ragas to seep into your psyche. She is accompanied by Lele and Bicholkar, giving perfect improvisational accompaniment.

This performance will finish at approximately 9.45pm
