Adrian Wootton Presents… The Third Man (PG) 4K Restoration

Orson Welles standing on a staircase looking backwards

Celebrating the 75th birthday of this classic British film, Adrian Wootton (CEO of Film London and Film Historian) will explore the amazing behind the scenes story of its making.

Holly Martins (Joseph Cotton), an American writer of pulp fiction, flies to Vienna just after the end of World War Two in the vague promise of a job from his wheeler dealer friend Harry Lime (Orson Welles). On arrival, he finds Lime has disappeared, apparently dead, and there is a major mystery surrounding the circumstances.

Perhaps the first European film noir, The Third man is a romantic thriller masterpiece, created by the combination of Graham Greene’s brilliant scriptwriting and Carol Reed’s atmospheric direction, embellished by outstanding performances especially from Orson Welles as the enigmatic anti-hero Lime.

This unmissable classic, has been restored in 4K black and white and cries out to be seen on the big screen. Preceded by an introduction from Adrian Wootton.
