R.M.N. (15)

A dad points a gun forward whilst standing next to his young son in a forest at nightfall.

Set in a small Romanian village, Cristian Mungiu's latest is a shadowy psychodrama about the poisonous spread of racism around Europe.

Known for his Palme D'Or winning film 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days, Romanian director Cristian Mungiu's latest film is a poignant meditation on pervasive xenophobia around Europe and the violent ends it leads to.

Set in a small village in Transylvania, R.M.N. follows a small multi-cultural community suffering from poverty and unemployment. Fired from his job in Germany, Matthias (Marin Grigore) returns to his wife (Macrina Bârlădeanu) and son. Historic resentments start to bubble to the surface with the arrival of some new immigrant workers who have been hired by the local factory.

Underlying frustrations and fears soon grip the populace, erupting through the veneer of understanding and calm. With divisions forming and tensions running high, it falls to a few residents to try and prevent the community from breaking apart completely.
