Sven Klang's Combo (12*) + Introduction by Ehsan Khoshbakht

Jazz on Screen

A black and white image of two finely dressed white men, one is speaking into a vintage microphone.

Travel back to the late '50s and immerse yourself in the heart-warming tale of a small dance band striving to make a name for themselves by performing at local weddings and hops.

Sven Klang’s Combo paints a vivid picture of a band bonded by their passion for music, camaraderie, and the thrill of live performances. Sven's firm grip on the band's dynamics, both on and off the stage, seems unshakable – until the arrival of a new alto saxophonist. This newcomer, a seasoned jazz artist with experience from Stockholm's club circuit, introduces a fresh dynamic to the group.

His commitment to jazz is unwavering, and his art is his very essence. Through his presence he tries to convince the small town band of the brave new world of be-bop. The film explores a clash between tradition and innovation, and the power of music to shape destinies. Watch as the clash of personalities and ideologies unfolds both on and off the stage, in an era defined by change and creativity.
