Christina Vantzou and ensemble

+ Holland Andrews

Wintry, analogue shot of Christina standing on a tree stub in a melancholic woodland

Compounded with intimate dimensions, composer Christina Vantzou's music confronts time's expansion, atmospheres and harmonies through electronics and acoustic instruments.

Brussels based composer Christina Vantzou has released five numbered albums of ambient-classical music on American label Kranky, and the 2020 field recording based Multi Natural on Edições CN.

Mixed on the island of Ano Koufonissi in the Aegean sea, her latest work No. 5 is described by Vantzou as 'a letting go,' a place of 'soft borders', unfixed and undefinable. In this work she collaborated with 17 musicians, yet the overall effect is intensely intimate. Applying resonance and restraint, liquidity and long tails, fleeting configurations of piano, winds, synthetics, voice and field recordings, she creates spaces as much as compositions.

Vantzou will perform pieces from No. 5 together with an ensemble, continuing where the record left off. Featuring a special guest performance from Holland Andrews.
