Babylon (18) (AD)

Margot Robbie in Babylon

La La Land and Whiplash director Damien Chazelle takes us through a euphoric odyssey into the Golden Age of Hollywood with a star-studded cast.

Declared as his "poison pen hate letter to Hollywood, but a love letter to cinema", director Damien Chazelle returns with an original epic set in 1920s Los Angeles charting the transition from the Silent Era to Talking Pictures, and the starry-eyed individuals who would do anything to make their mark in Tinseltown, no matter the consequences.

Starring Margot Robbie, Diego Calva, Jovan Adepo, Li Jun Li, and Brad Pitt (plus a jaw-dropping list of A-list cameos) Babylon is a tale about outsized ambition and outrageous excess, during an era of unbridled decadence and debauchery in early Hollywood. Reminiscent of Paul Thomas Anderson's Boogie Nights, the real heart of Chazelle's film lies in its underdog protagonists, whose unwavering love for film blinds them from the reality of an industry that will readily chew them up and spit them out.
