Sō Percussion with Caroline Shaw

Photo of Sō Percussion with Caroline Shaw

The daring visions of Sō Percussion are realised in a collaboration with Caroline Shaw, the Pulitzer Prize-winning composer who’s just as willing to push her music beyond its boundaries as they are.

Sō Percussion open with Angelica Negron’s Gone, encompassing us in driving rhythms, mechanical sounds and responsive synths, all played on custom-made Bricolo robotic instruments. Julia Wolfe describes her piece Forbidden Love as ‘all the things you aren’t supposed to do to string instruments’.

Caroline Shaw joins for the group for selections from her two (yes, two) albums of 2021, both written in collaboration with Sō Percussion, both drawing on Shaw’s melting pot of inspirations: rhythm, nature, literary quotes and hymns. Narrow Sea moves with the ebbs and flows of water, creating a timeless sense of movement. Let the Soil Play Its Simple Part sparkles with a heavenly beauty. And all played with mesmerising rigour by Sō Percussion, a group that ‘plays with an irresistible vitality’ (The Washington Post)

The end time for this concert will be added here closer to the performance date
