Polyester x Body Politics

Celebrating Carolee Schneemann

Carolee Schneemann, Meat Joy, 16–18 November 1964

A Polyester x Barbican collaboration contextualising Carolee Schneemann’s work in the present day.

We've paired up with Polyester for an exclusive evening celebrating Carolee Schneemann with a private view of the Body Politics exhibition and panel discussing her works with special guests Emma Dabiri, Lindsey Mendick and Curator Lotte Johnson, followed by drinks in the Conservatory. Exploring the necessity of Schneemann's work through a modern feminist lens, this conversation will illuminate the ongoing importance of experimental art.

A very limited number of tickets are available for Young Barbican members - if you're aged 14-25 you can join become a Young Barbican member for free, find out more here: Join Young Barbican.

Schneemann had an interdisciplinary and diverse practice. It is perhaps then unsurprising that she also had a wide-ranging taste in music - as happy listening to Minimalism as Marvin Gaye. Listen to a selection of the records that she loved here.
