We regret to inform you that this concert, originally scheduled for 29th January 2022, has been cancelled. All ticket-holders will be automatically refunded.

Maria Schneider returns to the Barbican with her eighteen-piece jazz orchestra, performing their new album, the Pulitzer Prize Finalist Data Lords – a rallying cry against Big Data.

Led by award-winning US composer and jazz musician Maria Schneider, this ensemble is made up of some of the finest musicians in jazz today. Blending genres and defying categorisation, Schneider’s compositions are heart-stoppingly beautiful and unexpected. A record of two halves, the first is discordant with jagged edges; the second acts as a melodic balm.

As a staunch activist for musician and creators’ rights Schneider has challenged free streaming models, and Data Lords is both a cry against dytopian clutter and exploitation, and a paean to nature, connection and inspiration. Scenically spacious and luminously harmonised, it has won two GRAMMY Awards.
