London Symphony Orchestra/Noseda

Prokofiev & Strauss

Gianandrea Noseda conducts

LSO Principal Guest Conductor Gianandrea Noseda conducts the Orchestra in two works inspired by the writings of Shakespeare.

‘How silver-sweet sound lovers' tongues by night, Like softest music to attending ears!’ Shakespeare’s star-cross’d lovers have inspired composers for centuries, but there’s still no interpretation of their tale that quite surpasses Prokofiev’s great Soviet ballet-score: Romeo and Juliet retold in music that’s as sharp as a rapier and as tender as a kiss.

It’s perfect for LSO principal guest conductor Gianandrea Noseda, an artist whose instinct for drama is matched only by his deep personal affinity with Russian music. There's drama to start the evening too as he opens the concert with Strauss' tone poem Macbeth.

Change of Artist and Programme

On her doctor’s advice, Janine Jansen is forced to withdraw from her engagements for the next several weeks, and she is therefore unable to perform with the LSO on 25 November 2021. As a result, Martin Fröst will also no longer be appearing and Strauss’ symphonic poem Macbeth will now replace the originally planned performance of Sally Beamish’s double concerto Distans in the first half of the concert.

The UK premiere of Distans is in the process of being rescheduled, and we will contact bookers for this concert with details when a date has been confirmed.
