BBC SO/Oramo

Sakari Oramo conducts the full choral-orchestral version of Ravel’s Daphnis et Chloé, one of the most overwhelmingly beautiful ballet score ever written.

For his 1912 ballet depicting the pure, enduring love of Daphnis et Chloé, dance and choreographer Michel Fokine knew just who to ask for music of the utmost atmosphere. Sure enough, this story brimming with exotic passions drew a magnificent score from Maurice Ravel, an orchestra-choral tapestry dripping in nostalgia and full of unforgettable moments.

Before this rare performance of the complete ballet score, Sakari Oramo gives the UK premiere of Betsy Jolas’s ‘meticulously charming’ (The Boston Globe) collage in homage to Bach’s hometown of Leipzig, and is joined by Renaud Capuçon for the most swashbuckling violin concerto of them all.

The performance will finish at approximately 9.30pm. It includes a 20 minute interval.
