Producer, pianist and bandleader Alfa Mist takes us on a sonic journey that melds beat-making with jazz composition.

Introspective jazz meets alternative hip-hop: inspired by the sample culture of J Dilla, Hi-tek and Madlib, skittering drum patterns mingle with jazzy, meandering piano licks and bursts of brass. Here, hip-hop rhythms drive throughout improvisational bars, all bound by a pervasive sense of melody.

Following a distinctly outsider’s approach and, as a self-taught musician, free from the confines of a traditional musical training, Alfa Mist has become a key player in the young and vibrant UK jazz scene. His fourth solo record Bring Backs (April 2021) reveals a detailed exploration of his upbringing in musical form.
