Explore the astonishing capabilities of the human voice with Shards, a new vocal group combining choral arrangements, synths and percussion.

They describe their compositions as ‘miniature sonic paintings’, imagistic pieces that capture the bewildering experience of young adulthood. There’s excitement, existentialism, anger and despair, reflected in the reverb-soaked vocal distortions of ‘Beams’, or the raw and dramatic dynamism of ‘Unrest’.

This huge emotional scope is reflected by the vibrancy of the voices involved in the project. When assembling the group, founder and composer Kieran Brunt brought together not just vocalists, but also composers, instrumentalists, folk musicians and teachers. They initially debuted at Nils Frahm’s Possibly Colliding at the Barbican in 2016, and later collaborated with Frahm on his album All Melody. In 2019, they released their debut album, Find Sound – a remarkable record that reimagines choral music for our times.
