Preview: Loveless (15) + ScreenTalk with Andrey Zvyagintsev and Alexander Rodnyansky

A still from Loveless

From Leviathan director Andrey Zvyagintsev comes this brutal study of a Russian couple whose son disappears as they’re battling through their divorce.

Zhenya (Maryana Spivak) and Boris (Aleksey Rozin) are going through a bitter divorce. Although they still live together, both are keen to move on, having both found new partners, a new and better life awaits them. There's only one thing keeping them from these better lives, their 12 year old son, Alyosha. Unable to decide who will take on custody, the young boy listens in on their arguments, feeling ever more a burden. When he disappears during one of their fights, it takes them two days to notice.

Recently nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, this is a striking portrait not only of a family in crisis, but of a crisis at the heart of contemporary Russian society.

The screening is followed by a ScreenTalk with the director Andrey Zvyagintsev and producer Alexander Rodnyansky.
