It's 2002 in Sacramento, California. Christine McPherson (Saoirse Ronan), or Lady Bird as she prefers to be called, is constantly butting up against the constraints of teenage life. She has big –and somewhat unrealistic– dreams for herself, looking for something beyond her life at catholic school. Passionate and stubborn, she clashes with her mum daily (Laurie Metcalf), a nurse working tirelessly to keep her family afloat, whose practical concerns around money and stability are of no interest to her.
Saoirse Ronan delivers one of her greatest performances, capturing the wildness and unpredictability of life as a teenager.
'Lady Bird is a film bursting with warmth, wit and melancholy that manages to seem fresh and unexpected despite the overly stacked nature of the subgenre' The Guardian
