Guildhall presents Poulenc's masterpiece

Guildhall School presents Poulenc's Les Dialogues des Carmelites

Set against the backdrop of the French Revolution, Poulenc’s sublime masterpiece follows the harrowing story of Blanche de la Force, a shy young aristocrat who joins the Carmelite convent.

This dramatic and powerful tour-de-force, based on a true story, explores faith and redemption, fate and sacrifice.

Listen to our podcast with cast members Michelle Alexander, Lucy Anderson and Michael Vickers as we discuss religion and martyrdom in the opera, singing in French and nun puns.

Watch: The Tale of Januarie - homegrown opera at Guildhall

'The Tale of Januarie' was the first opera to be written in Middle English and received its world-premiere in the spring term. Our cameras went behind the scenes and followed the action as the production brought together almost the entire School.
