Dogman (15)

In the latest from Matteo Garrone, a gentle dog groomer in small-town Italy finds himself in a dangerous friendship with the neighbourhood menace, a violent former boxer.

Matteo Garrone, the lauded filmmaker behind Gomorrah returns to the crime thriller genre with this tension-filled cinematic masterpiece with pangs of the Cohen brothers and echoes of Italian neo-realism.

Featuring a Cannes award-winning performance from Marcello Fonte as Marcello, a small, unassuming dog groomer who wants two things: to look after his dogs and take his daughter on exotic holidays.

To fund his lifestyle he runs a cocaine-dealing side business which has a more unsavoury clientele and soon finds himself involved in a dangerous relationship of subjugation with Simonice (Edoardo Pesce), a violent former boxer who terrorises the entire neighbourhood.

When Simone exploits him too much Marcello is faced with a terrifying question of whether to let Simonice let his way or whether to regain his dignity.
