Architecture on Stage: Diener & Diener

architecture on stage tour

Roger Diener finished his studies under Aldo Rossi and joined the office run by his father, Marcus Diener, establishing Diener & Diener Architects in Basel in 1980.

Roger Diener (Basel, 1950) studied at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETHZ) and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL) with Aldo Rossi and Luigi Snozzi among others. In 1976, he joined the office run by his father, Marcus Diener, and which he then took over in 1980. “The House and the City,” the field of debate and exchange that extends between the poles of modern-day buildings and their historic counterparts within the context of the European cityscape represents a central topic of reflection guiding Diener & Diener's architecture and urban design.  From 1999 to 2015 Roger Diener was a professor at the ETH Zurich where he taught and published at the Studio Basel with Marcel Meili, Jacques Herzog, and Pierre de Meuron.

Roger Diener has led the office Diener & Diener with Terese Erngaard, Michael Roth, and Andreas Rüedi since 2011.

The Architecture Foundation, in association with the Barbican, presents Architecture on Stage – a programme of talks by the world's leading architects.
