Zakir Hussain – Crosscurrents

with Dave Holland and Chris Potter

Zakir Hussain playing the tabla

Tabla virtuoso Zakir Hussain explores how Jazz influenced the popular music of India alongside Dave Holland and Chris Potter.

A true master of the Indian Classical tradition – Zakir Hussain’s hypnotic percussive playing is unmistakeable. Refusing to be confined to the music of his homeland, throughout the years he has embarked on a multitude of creative collaborations that transcend boundaries. This latest project sees him joined by two Jazz stalwarts, bassist Dave Holland and saxophonist Chris Potter, as they respond to a period in the mid 20th century that saw Jazz and Hollywood musicals impact upon Indian popular music.
