The Music of the Black Renaissance: Episode 3

Nothing Concrete text
1 Nov 2022

Over this six-part series, musicologist and pianist Dr Samantha Ege uncovers some of the hidden truths of Western classical music history.

Ege explores the music that emerged from the 20th-century Black Renaissance in the United States – an era of cultural rebirth, social transformation, and rich artistic expression through Black innovations in music, art, dance, literature and theatre.

This week, Samantha Ege shines a light on two women whose music is rooted in the Black Renaissance: Zenobia Powell Perry and Betty Jackson King.
