Kronos Quartet: Five Decades

Kronos Quartet group shot

As part of their 50th anniversary tour, the pioneering group Kronos Quartet make their anticipated return to the Hall, performing seminal pieces from their extensive canon.

For 50 years San Francisco’s Kronos Quartet – David Harrington, John Sherba, Hank Dutt and Paul Wiancko – has challenged and reimagined what a string quartet can be, revolutionizing the string quartet into a living art form, responding to the people and issues of our time.

Having commissioned over 1,000 works and arrangements, the quartet has received more than 40 awards, including three GRAMMYs.

Honing in on five decades of material, this show will include performances of Steve Reich’s Triple Quartet, selections from revered albums like Pieces Of Africa and Nuevo, as well as pieces by George Crumb, Dumisani Maraire, Terry Riley, Peni Candra Rini, Alfred Schnittke and more.

Just announced, special guests Yahael Camara Onono of Balimaya Project and Indonesian composer Peni Candra Rini will join Kronos on this special evening

Yahael Camara Onono, the leader of Balimaya Project, will be joining Kronos to play djembe on Dumisani Maraire's Mai Nozipo from the classic Kronos album Pieces Of Africa.

Indonesian composer Peni Candra Rini will be joining Kronos on the UK premiere of her piece Maduswara.

The end time for this concert will be added here closer to the performance dates.
