Ravi Coltrane

Cosmic Music

Ravi Coltrane sitting crosslegged holding his saxophone and looking over his shoulder

Saxophonist, bandleader and composer Ravi Coltrane explores the music of his parents, legendary and influential jazz musicians John Coltrane and Alice Coltrane.

Joined on stage by his quartet, pianist Gadi Lehavi, Dezron Douglas on bass and drummer Elé Howell, Ravi moves from the instantly recognisable melodies of John to the spiritual and ecstatic sounds of Alice.

In a career now spanning over twenty years, Ravi Coltrane has worked with the likes of Elvin Jones, Terence Blanchard and The Blue Note 7, as well as his mother Alice’s 2004 release Translinear Light, all whilst building his solo work. Named after sitar icon Ravi Shankar, it was inevitable that his parents’ varied influences would infuse his work.
