Watch a screening of critically-acclaimed film Rocks before joining Inua Ellams as a line-up of poets share new work - their words and verses responding to its heartbreaking and life-affirming themes.

Bursting with energy, this new film from playwright Theresa Ikoko and Claire Wilson follows east end teenager Shola after her mother’s sudden disappearance. Sarah Gavron directs this coming-of-age story which offers a glimpse of an authentic London rarely captured on film.

Joining Inua Ellams as co-curator will be Michelle Tiwo as they introduce babirye bukilwaSarah LasoyeBe Manzini, Shanay Neusum-James and Tania Nwachukwu to share specially commissioned poetry responding to the film's themes. To mark Black History Month, this all Black femme line-up bring a powerful collective of experience from storytelling and theatre to radio and television.

Running time: 2 hrs 30 mins, including a 15 min interval

Relaxed performance

The screening and performance on Wed 13 Oct will be Relaxed.

A number of changes will be made during these performance which include: 

  • The house will be opened early to allow you more time to find your seats.
     
  • A member of the Front of House team will lead a pre-show welcome talk.
     
  • The Front of House team are briefed on providing a more informal service and relaxing the standards in regard to audience behaviour during the performance.
     
  • Latecomer and re-admittance points will be relaxed to allow people to leave and re-enter the auditorium more freely.
     
  • The house lights will remain slightly raised to during the performance to ensure your safety if you need to move about.
     
  • Auditorium doors will be kept open during the performance to assist you in entering and exiting the theatre during the performance.
     
  • A quiet chill out space is provided with comfortable seating.
