Kajillionaire (12A)

a man an two women hunch down so they can't be seen walking past a fence

Miranda July (Me and You and Everyone We Know, The Future) writes and directs this black comedy crime caper, starring Evan Rachel Wood, Gina Rodriguez, Debra Winger and Richard Jenkins.

Old Dolio (Wood) spends her days committing petty crimes with her unaffectionate, oddball parents (Winger and Jenkins). Regularly sent off to perform a scam alone, she has no connections to the world. It seems like this might be the life for her, but slowly even her hilariously stoic demeanour cannot mask her loneliness and longing for a more conventional life.

Enter Melanie (Rodriguez); a vivacious young woman who sparks an awakening in Old Dolio that causes her to re-evaluate her existence and dare to strive for something more.

An expertly crafted, fresh and original script is brought to life by a stellar cast. Darkly comedic and surprising at every turn; undoubtedly one of the best films of the year.
