Handel’s Coronation Anthems

Le Concert Spirituel

A portrait of Herve conducting in a serious manner

Hervé Niquet and Le Concert Spirituel put an unmistakably French polish on the baroque grandeur of Handel’s coronation anthems, including the spine-tingling ceremonial Zadok the Priest.

Handel’s coronation anthems call on the authority of heaven to bless the crown of England – and they’re just as grand as that sounds. This is music written to impress, and no performers make it glitter quite as gloriously as the French conductor with his period-instrument band and choir.

Combining Hanoverian swagger with an irresistibly Gallic flair, they’re the perfect interpreters for an evening of Handel’s choral music at its majestic peak – from the stately splendour of The King Shall Rejoice to the victorious trumpets of the Dettingen Te Deum.

This performance will end at approximately 10pm, including a 20 minute interval.
