Wedding Dresses Always End Up Single

A performance by Olivier Saillard/Moda Povera

Olivier Sallaird dresses a model in a wedding dr4ess

Blurring the lines between fashion and literature, this intimate performance reinvents wedding dresses in poetic cycles, reflecting on memory, love and loss.

Taking dresses found on re-sale websites fashion historian Olivier Saillard deconstructs them to create poetic new forms around the couture model, Axelle Doué.

Highlighting the marks left on these gowns their emotional significance is explored along with our own thoughts and feelings on marriage.

Some of them, too fragile to take apart have been transformed into fabric letters, echoing the narration from Rachida Brakni.

Playing on French double-entendres and puns that defy translation, this dialogue brings us closer to the traces of life left on the items, leading us to consider the marks we leave on our clothes everyday.

The power and history of worn clothing is explored in our bold new fashion exhibition Dirty Looks: Desire and Decay in Fashion.
